Over the past six months or so I have had the pleasure of teaching and coaching on value-based healthcare principles applied to remote regions of NW Queensland with my friends Australian Healthcare & Hospitals Association (AHHA)
This is a truly vast, wild and beautiful area of the world and the challenges of delivering healthcare to the people living there are extreme. During our work together we have debated at times the feasibility of applying hashtag#vbhc here.
So when I attended the first of a series of showcases where teams set out their real life plans to drive better outcomes and value I was absolutely blown away by what I saw.
3 projects!
- Increasing the uptake of CGM in diabetes as an adjunct to a coproduced approach to supported self-management with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders, backed up by outcome measurement and cost impacts.
- A new approach to oral health in a remote town of 550 people, thinking of innovative partnerships and funding models
- And finally a rethink on how best to help young people with acute psychosis. Again, some really innovative and ambitious thinking.
Wow.
#vbhc in action in extreme conditions. They made it look easy.
